As a physical and symbolic delineation of sacred space, a Prayer Rug allows worshippers to establish a ritually pure area for prayer. The mihrāb, a stylized representation of the prayer niche in mosques, serves as a visual guide towards the Kaaba in Mecca, the direction of prayer for Muslims. Through its design, this prayer rug offers insights into wider cultural and intellectual movements within the Islamic world. In Turkish culture, earlier prayer rugs, such as this, have abstract motives and usually very bright colors. Ultimately, while a simple object, the prayer rug represents the intersection between the material and spiritual realms, individual and communal, and historical trends and artistic expression in the Islamic world.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
If you like uniformity-a soulless item-these are not for you. These are the reminiscent of a disappearing art.
