ANTIQUE DERBENT RUNNER
ANTIQUE DERBENT RUNNER
SKU:
#30460. Derbent. This beauty was woven in the mid-20th c. in the Derbent region. Its field design is from the very early tribal rug weaving times, thus decorated with many protective motives and shapes for the beholder of the rug. The big border is decorated with peacocks, who are associated with beauty, royalty, and dignity. In ancient Greece, it was considered as the symbol of Hera and in Hinduism, it is the sacred bird.
These kind of runners are very rare, especially in this condition.
All rugs have been hand selected from the regions that are classically famous for rug weaving. Unfortunately, the hand woven rug industry is seeing a decline with fewer and fewer hand weavers keeping up the profession as newer generations move into more advanced industries. As such, these one-of-a-kind rugs will become increasingly rare and are seen by many as collectibles.
