The concept of hand-shaped chairs has historical roots across various cultures, but the modern interpretation is credited to Mexican surrealist artist Pedro Friedeberg, born in 1936. His family's migration from Italy to Mexico during World War II influenced his distinctive artistic vision. This particular small hand-shaped chair, crafted and assembled in the mid-20th century, traveled from Southeast Asia to Turkey, where two expertly joined pieces form its unique structure. Traditionally used for meditation, it is also referred to as the "Buddha's hand" in its region of origin, symbolizing spiritual serenity. Combining artistic innovation with cultural resonance, this chair’s timeless design makes it a singular piece that stands out as both a functional object and a collector’s treasure.
