ANTIQUE KAYSERI RUG/CARPET

This Kayseri rug is a timeless piece from the 20th century, meticulously hand-woven with natural dyes and hand-spun wool in the southeastern region of Turkiye. Its low and dense pile features intricate motifs inspired by nature, while its stunning apricot field adds to its unique beauty.  This is one of my favorites.

Unlike Persian rugs, which were mainly made for the U.S. market, these rugs were traditionally woven in specific sizes for Turkish upper-class families. Throughout the ages, civilizations such as the Hittites, Phrygians, Romans, Ottomans, and Armenians have all contributed to the unique culture of Kayseri.

Each of our carpets and kilims is unique, hand-knotted or hand-woven using 100% hand-spun wool. The color variations, known as "Abrash," result from the natural dye absorption of undyed wool or the use of two different dye lots available at the time of weaving. For those seeking uniformity, these pieces may not suit your taste. Instead, they stand as authentic examples of a vanishing craftsmanship tradition.
