This remarkable antique Kazak carpet, woven in the Caucasus region during the late 19th century, exemplifies masterful craftsmanship using hand-spun wool and natural vegetable dyes. The central medallions are richly decorated with intricate motifs including dragons, love birds, scorpion tails, symbols believed to bring good fortune, and representations of Anatolian goddess figures posed with hands on hips. Surrounding these, the main border communicates a profound message of unity in existence, tying the design's spiritual elements together. These abstract symbols reflect the distinct weaving vocabulary of early Turkic tribes, making this piece not only a stunning decorative artifact but also a valuable cultural document that connects art, symbolism, and tribal heritage.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
If you like uniformity-a soulless item-these are not for you. These are the reminiscent of a disappearing art.
