#13460.  Tabriz.  This is a very special kind of Tabriz than you have ever seen before.  If you know this type of rug, the one before us is extremely unusual in every aspect, from patterns to colors.  It is decorated with weeping willows all around the border as well as the main field corners.  The tree represents endurance, accommodation, capacity to withstand hardship, loss, and emotional hardship.  Because it can easily regenerate even if it were to be cut down, it is also seen as survivor and symbol of rebirth.

There are so many other nature related symbolizations in this rug.  It was probably woven in the early 20th c.  Its edges are rebounded.  The use of madder root, saffron and indigo is well balanced and perfect.

All rugs have been hand selected from the regions that are classically famous for rug weaving. Unfortunately, the hand woven rug industry is seeing a decline with fewer and fewer hand weavers keeping up the profession as newer generations move into more advanced industries. As such, these one-of-a-kind rugs will become increasingly rare and are seen by many as collectibles.

Size:  4’4” x 5’9”
