Originating from Shiraz, a city located in southern Iran, Shiraz carpets have a rich and ancient history that can be traced back to the 16th century. Woven by nomadic tribes in the region, these carpets are a reflection of their distinctive weaving techniques that have been passed down through generations. Influenced by the Safavid dynasty in Persia, Shiraz rugs often incorporate Turkish and Kurdish weaving styles and showcase designs from prominent tribes such as the Qashqai and Afshar. These carpets serve as a testament to the enduring legacy of nomadic craftsmanship, despite the passage of time and fluctuating socio-political landscapes. The traditional boteh design found in Antique Qashqai Carpets such as this one originated from the ancient Persian Empire and has been used for thousands of years. Inspired by Zoroastrian beliefs, the boteh motif represents the concepts of life and eternity.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
If you like uniformity-a soulless item-these are not for you. These are the reminiscent of a disappearing art.
