Antique Qashqai Carpets, part of the broader tradition of Shirazi weaving by tribes such as the Qashqai and Khamseh since the 16th century, are distinguished by their bold tribal patterns and rustic character. This particular rug exhibits a pronounced West Central Asian influence, showcasing a complex array of geometric Turkic designs that speak to a rich intercultural heritage. These motifs carry deep symbolic meaning: representations of love, power, and protection are woven into the fabric through abstract depictions of dragons—symbols of strength and vigilance—nightingales, which evoke beauty and poetic inspiration, and various good luck charms intended to safeguard the home. Crafted with time-honored techniques and natural dyes, the carpet exemplifies both artistic mastery and cultural storytelling, making it a prized piece that combines enduring durability with profound symbolic significance.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
If you like uniformity-a soulless item-these are not for you. These are the reminiscent of a disappearing art.
