Known as a "Super Shirvan" for its exceptional weaving quality, this antique Shirvan carpet is crafted entirely from hand-spun wool. The weaver skillfully utilized the Turkish double knot technique, an intricate method that requires precision and expertise, especially at such a fine scale. The design features an unusually complex layering of borders set against a rich chocolate field, which creates striking contrast and cohesion by visually linking the medallions with the surrounding borders. Originating from the Shirvan district of Azerbaijan, located on the western shore of the Caspian Sea, this carpet is a testament to the weaver’s craftsmanship and artistic sensibility, representing both cultural heritage and technical mastery in a stunning, timeless work of art.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
If you like uniformity-a soulless item-these are not for you. These are the reminiscent of a disappearing art.
