Soumack rugs are crafted in the Caucasian tribal region of Eastern Anatolia, in modern-day Turkey. These handmade rugs are made by members of the Armenian, Kurdish, Persian, and Turkish tribes, who have passed down their weaving traditions for centuries. The creation process for Soumack rugs is unique to this specific region, and the patterns, including dragon and tentacle designs, are exclusive to Soumaks. This makes Soumak rugs highly coveted and collectible. As an art form, the creation of soumak handmade rugs is primarily carried out by elderly weavers in rural areas, resulting in a limited supply of authentic rugs available today.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
If you like uniformity-a soulless item-these are not for you. These are the reminiscent of a disappearing art.
