#15518. Tabriz. If it is not unusual enough, I do not buy Heriz rugs. In this case, this is a very unusual one with a Herati center that is filled with nature motives amongst which there are bird and other animal symbols. This is a one-of-a-kind piece of art, probably woven in the 1st half of 20th c. It has a low pile, and the edges are refinished.
All rugs have been hand selected from the regions that are classically famous for rug weaving. Unfortunately, the hand woven rug industry is seeing a decline with fewer and fewer hand weavers keeping up the profession as newer generations move into more advanced industries. As such, these one-of-a-kind rugs will become increasingly rare and are seen by many as collectibles.
