Gendje rugs hail from the Caucasus, crafted primarily near the city of Gäncä in Azerbaijan. These antique textiles reveal the impact of neighboring Kazak and Shirvan weaving styles, featuring strong geometric motifs, rich color schemes, and distinctive diagonal stripes alongside central medallions or open fields, as seen in this example. They are finely woven with wool on wool using vegetable-based dyes, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
ALL THE PRODUCTS ON THIS PAGE ARE "MUST GO." THESE ARE THE LAST OF THEIR KINDS WE HAVE.
