Since the 11th century, the city of Pergamum, now Bergama, Turkey, has been renowned for its traditional carpet weaving techniques. These carpets are characterized by vibrant hues, geometric patterns, and a lustrous texture achieved through traditional color choices. Thanks to the resurgence of madder root as a natural dye in the late 1970s, hand-knotted rugs have seen a revival in the use of vegetable dyes. This particular carpet is a prime example of this process.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
If you like uniformity-a soulless item-these are not for you. These are the reminiscent of a disappearing art.
