Hailing from Shiraz, a city in southern Iran, Shiraz rugs have a long and storied history dating back to the 16th century. This carpet woven by nomadic tribes in the region, who passed down their unique weaving techniques through generations. Influenced by the Safavid dynasty in Persia, Shiraz rugs often feature Turkish and Kurdish weaving styles and incorporate designs from prominent tribes such as the Qashqai and Afshar. These carpets serve as a testament to the enduring legacy of nomadic artistry in the face of time and changing socio-political landscapes. This is an illustration of a classic, dual-columned, highly distinct Shiraz.
Our pieces are hand-woven or hand-knotted using handspun wool & natural/vegetable dyes. These dyes are set using natural processes such as pine saps instead of animal urine to reduce allergy risks, making them safe for pets. Rugs over 100 years old are classified as antiques, while those between 20 and 100 years old are considered vintage. Although some vintage rugs may have been over-dyed, they are still highly sought after for their decorative appeal. Originally created for specific purposes such as dowries, gifts, and home decoration, these rugs come in non-standard sizes and colors, adding to their rarity and uniqueness. Sadly, the art of weaving in regions from greater Mesopotamia to Central Asia is disappearing as rural traditions are overtaken by urban opportunities, making these items even more rare. Each rug is thoroughly examined for any damages and restored as needed, including the fringes. With all these features, our collection offers one-of-a-kind selection.
