This is a striped vintage Denizli kilim like the ones from Balikkesir. Because these Turkoman nomads came to the Western Anatolia around 15th c., they have very similar symbols. This is decorated with all seeing eyes, wedding bands and Turkish love-knots all over, manifesting harmony, unity, peace and love.
These kilims & carpets were mostly woven for specific reasons, such as dowry, gift, commission based by someone, or for the decoration of one’s home. That is why they are not regular sizes like today’s rugs in perfect sizes or colors.
These are very rare finds, because the art of weaving in these original areas is disappearing very fast due to more opportunities in big cities. Weaving was a pastime activity in most of rural areas of greater Mesopotamia to Central Asia and the source of income as well.
They have been all checked for damages, if needed, restored, such as the fringes and edges by Turkish carpet restoration experts in Turkey.
