During the late 20th century, many Americans sought after Turkoman Tekke, (a.k.a. Bukhara) carpets for their distinctive deep, harmonious color tones and unique prominent motifs known as "gul," which translates to "pond" or "rose." Some researchers have also referred to these designs as "Elephant’s footprints," though the reason for this label is unclear. Authentic versions of these rugs, typically woven in Afghanistan or Turkmenistan, feature an all-wool construction similar to the example shown here. In contrast, later pieces produced in refugee camps or in regions like Pakistan and India often utilized a cotton foundation.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
If you like uniformity-a soulless item-these are not for you. These are the reminiscent of a disappearing art.
