VINTAGE KAYSERI RUG/CARPET

This vintage carpet from Kayseri, Turkiye boasts a stunningly intricate medallion design and is expertly crafted from hand spun wool and natural dyes. The low and dense pile adds a touch of elegance to any room, making it a must-have for any collector or home decorator. Unlike Persian rugs, which were mainly made for the U.S. market, these rugs were traditionally woven in specific sizes for Turkish upper-class families. Throughout the ages, civilizations such as the Hittites, Phrygians, Romans, Ottomans, and Armenians have all contributed to the unique culture of Kayseri.

Each of our carpets and kilims is unique, hand-knotted or hand-woven using 100% hand-spun wool. The color variations, known as "Abrash," result from the natural dye absorption of undyed wool or the use of two different dye lots available at the time of weaving. For those seeking uniformity, these pieces may not suit your taste. Instead, they stand as authentic examples of a vanishing craftsmanship tradition.
