Vintage Konya Carpets reflect the profound cultural heritage of Konya, a city revered not only for its traditional carpet weaving but also as the home of the spiritual poet Rumi. This particular rug exemplifies one of the many distinct weaving styles developed in the region, drawing clear inspiration from antique Serapi rugs known for their elegant designs and rich symbolism. Crafted using the demanding wool-on-wool foundation technique traditional to the area, it requires exceptional skill and patience, resulting in a durable and luxurious texture. The design harmonizes intricate motifs and balanced color schemes, embodying both artistic expression and technical mastery. Owning such a carpet connects collectors to centuries of Anatolian weaving heritage and Rumi’s enduring cultural influence, making it a treasured piece for connoisseurs and historians alike.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
If you like uniformity-a soulless item-these are not for you. These are the reminiscent of a disappearing art.
