Vintage Silife Kilim
Vintage Silife Kilim
SKU:
These kilim & carpets were mostly woven for specific reasons, such as dowry, gift, commission based by someone, or for the decoration of one’s home. That is why they are not regular sizes like today’s rugs in perfect sizes or colors.
These are very rare finds, because the art of weaving in these original areas is disappearing very fast due to more opportunities in big cities. Weaving was a pastime activity in most of rural areas of greater Mesopotamia to Central Asia and the source of income as well.
This beautiful kilim was woven in Silifke. The town is also famous for its dances and yogurt. This is a two panel kilim woven on a strap-on loom while grazing animals in the high steppes of Mersin. They are usually very soft, which makes it easy to rap around animals, belongings or people, as well as using them as the floor all wall covers in those tents.
