Vintage Sivas Kilim

This piece is a Dazkiri-style kilim, linked to early Dazkiri nomads who settled in this region during the 15th-16th centuries before many migrated west toward the Aegean coast. It reflects the heritage of those who remained, often featuring Anatolian goddess motifs symbolizing the protective all-seeing eye, alongside sacred oil lamp imagery. The earliest recorded Turkish kilim can be traced to Neolithic wall paintings from Çatalhöyük, dating back to 7000 BC. Originally serving as blankets, saddle covers, seat mats, or wall hangings, kilims like this one frequently incorporate striped designs known as "water channel" or the "essence of life."

These kilims & carpets were mostly woven for specific reasons, such as dowry, gift, commission based by someone, or for the decoration of one’s home.  That is why they are not regular sizes like today’s rugs in perfect sizes or colors.

These are very rare finds, because the art of weaving in these original areas is disappearing very fast due to more opportunities in big cities.  Weaving was a pastime activity in most of rural areas of greater Mesopotamia to Central Asia and the source of income as well.

They have been all checked for damages, if needed, restored, such as the fringes and edges by Turkish carpet restoration experts in Turkey.
