Founded in 1515 during the reign of Yavuz Sultan Selim, Taspinar was established by a Turkish tribe from Azerbaijan. Due to unfavorable climate, the village was later relocated to the present-day Hotamis district, now known as Tashpinar neighborhood. It has a long history of producing high-quality carpets and has been mentioned in historical sources and travel books. The Seljuk period carpets from Aksaray were renowned, with Venetian Marco Polo stating in his travel book that they were "The World's best and most beautiful carpets". This tradition continued during the Ottoman period, as described in the travel book of English traveler WJ Hamilton in 1837. Hamilton also wrote about the cultivation of root dye used in dyeing carpet yarn in Aksaray.
All our carpets and kilims are one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted or hand-woven with 100% hand spun wool pile. Color variation is called "Abrash" which is due to none-bleached wool's absorption of the dyes used or the carpet or kilim maybe woven with 2 different batches of dyed wool, which was available at the time.
If you like uniformity-a soulless item-these are not for you. These are the reminiscent of a disappearing art.
